About Dr. James B. Maas
Dr. James B. Maas is a Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow, Professor and past chairman of the Department of Psychology at Cornell University. He received his B.A. from Williams College and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Cornell. He teaches introductory psychology to 1,700 students each year in the nation's largest single lecture class, and conducts research on the relationship between sleep and performance.
Dr. Maas Golden Rules of Sleep
Most Americans are sleep deprived. The tips below should help you get a better nights sleep so that you may be alert all day.
- Get 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night.
- Go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time every day.
- Avoid caffeine after 2pm.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages for 3 hours before bedtime.
- Get regular exercise.
- Create a good bedroom environment: Quiet, dark and cool- about 67 degrees.
