How to Compare Mattress Sets
- A mattress set is a blind purchase; you cant lift up the hood and look inside. For this reason, you should stick with a name brand with a proven track record.
- Beware of brands you have never heard of. Often these brands are imitators of the market leaders. Their mattress sets will not have the patented features of the leading brands.
- Beware of stores that claim theyll save you money by selling you a generic that is "every bit as good as or better than a name brand." Generic mattresses lack the patented features and quality upholstery that make a mattress set last. Today, generic mattresses arent cheaper than name brands, so why buy a generic?
If a store refuses to give you a specifications
sheet then you should not buy from them. They obviously have something to hide.
- Remember that all mattress retailers have been given different model names and covers on their mattress sets. You cannot be sure that you are comparing apples to apples from one store to the next unless you ask for specification sheets.
The spec sheets will list exactly what is in the mattress and boxspring. If you go price shopping at another store, ask for the comparable mattress and then ask for a spec sheet on that mattress to be sure they are honestly showing you the comparable product.

- Dont be fooled by a warranty. It is a bad tool to use when comparing bedding. Look for a warranty that is realistic - many that seem too good to be true - are. The top mattress manufacturers offer similar warranties, usually of 10 years.
